I’ve always made and experimented on my own alongside my day-to-day role and feel that as technicians at an Arts University a lot of the students and our academic colleagues, may not know our own creative practice outside of work hours.
So when I spoke up about technicians being artists in their own right in a large Workshop meeting, little did I know that my Boss would then ask if I wanted to organize an exhibition, just for technicians.
It was an opportunity that even though I had a lot on my plate, I wasn’t going to turn down and that’s where the technician exhibition came about.
My recent life sculptures were an obvious choice for me to enter into the exhibition and I had wanted to put both pieces in, but my reclining figure had breaks down one side that even though I repaired with care, I felt it would be stronger to put in the one perfect piece.
I am so proud of all the work of the artist technicians in this show and I’ve got to thank the boss for letting us run with it and have a show in the prestigious East Gallery, at the same time as the Norfolk and Norwich festival so we should get lots of people coming to see it.
I am hosting an exhibition tour if you’d like to be able to ask questions or find out a bit more about technicians and what we support.
No booking required – Saturday 11th May 2-3pm – hope to see you there!
